Neckline
The neckline is the lower edge of the beard on the neck. It helps define where the beard ends and where the clean-shaven neck begins.
Cheek line
The cheek line is the upper edge of the beard on the cheeks. It can be left natural, softened, or shaped more sharply.
Bulk
Bulk means the thickness and weight of the beard. Removing bulk can make a beard look tidier without taking the overall length too short.
Shape
Shape refers to the overall outline and structure of the beard. A beard can be rounded, squared, tapered, fuller at the chin, or shaped to suit the face.
Blend
A blend connects the beard into the sideburns or haircut. This is common when a client has a fade or shorter sides.
Moustache area
The moustache area may be trimmed over the lip, shaped at the sides, or blended into the beard.
Why terminology matters
Using clear terms helps avoid confusion and supports better client consultations.
