What beard balm does
Beard balm can soften the beard while giving more control than beard oil. It helps manage flyaway hairs and can make a beard look neater.
When to use it
Balm is often useful for medium to longer beards, coarse beards, or beards that need light shaping.
How barbers use it
After trimming and shaping, a barber may warm a small amount of balm between the hands and work it evenly through the beard. The beard can then be combed or brushed into place.
Balm is not strong styling wax
Beard balm gives light control, not the rigid hold of a strong styling product. It is best for a natural, groomed finish.
Caution
Check for client sensitivity to fragrance or ingredients. Do not apply product to broken or irritated skin if it may cause discomfort.
Barber tip
Use less than you think. Too much balm can make the beard look heavy or greasy.
